Well actually the letter was to me but really it’s to everyone in the town – especially those who love music and can recall the sounds of the 1980s and in particular those of the British band The Korgis. I’ve put a YouTube link to one of their best known songs below. Top bloke and musical impresario Barry Walsh has been doing his best to promote the gig – so hopefully this will help pack out the Town Hall for another big night out in Axbridge. (Diary Date: Sunday 13th April, 2025). Kind regards, Harry.

Hi Harry

On Sunday 13 April John Baker and I will be performing at the Town Hall in Axbridge and we wondered if you could give us a mention in the Review.

Here’s a bit of history and context that might be useful: “The Korgis were formed way back in 1978 by James Warren and Andy Davis, erstwhile members of much-loved eccentric prog-rock band Stackridge. With the plan of writing and recording radio-friendly melodic pop, the duo struck gold twice with If I Had You and the timeless classic Everybody’s Got To Learn Sometime.

The latter tune has been covered over 50 times since the original Korgis rendition by artists as varied as Beck, Erasure, Sharon Corr, Baby D and The Flying Pickets and continues to have a life of its own right up to the present day.

James has performed with fellow Bath-based musician John Baker + a 5-piece live band on-and-off since the 1980s and Sunday’s acoustic show at the Town Hall will be a unique and fascinating celebration of their musical development.

Comprising renditions of their favourite inspiring songs by other artists they’ve been connected with down the years such as Tears For Fears, Peter Gabriel and songwriter Tony Hatch (Downtown), plus a generous sprinkling of entertaining anecdotes and Korgis tunes old and new, this show will certainly be a rare treat not be missed.”

Hope this will be of interest

Best Wishes, James.
