Somerset exhibition – THINKING INSIDE THE BOX. 15th – 30th March, weekends only, 11am-4pm

By Tina Salvidge of Hatch: Hatch is an artists collective that evolved during lockdown in collaboration with the wonderful Ian and his huge disused battery egg farm. The enormity of the space meant we could put on our first drive thru exhibition, which allowed us to show our work safely during the pandemic.  Although people can now walk through our shows, we’ve continued bringing new life to the building through a whole host of exhibitions, events and escapades. Offering people the opportunity to experience art in a new way and challenge their perceptions of the world. From site specific installations, painting, sculpture, film, sound and kinetic works at Hatch we tap into the wealth of artistic talent we have here in Somerset… providing opportunities for artists to work on a grand scale.

Hatch has widened its net with a recent Open Call for exciting art, and extended an invitation to nearly 40 local and nationally selected artists to exhibit alongside existing Hatch collective members. All have been asked to create work responding to the theme of Thinking Inside the Box. Our latest exhibition has an extra twist – all art must fit within a space occupying no more than a 1metre cube and be suspended!
The rest is left to the individual artist’s imagination, but we are very excited about this exhibition so join us to be intrigued and surprised. Suitable for all the family, the Secret Barn will be open to visitors on
Saturday and Sunday from 11am-4pm for 3 weekends,15 th – 30 th March.

Please email hatch.art.somerset@gmail.com to request an invitation to visit

Hatch is located in central Somerset not far from Langport where there are shops, cafes and other facilities available in the town.

Editor’s Note: Tina Salvidge was instrumental in helping to secure grants and finance for the last Axbridge Pageant and was an invaluable source of advice and support for the event. She is married to Phil Saunders who is part of Axbridge Community Theatre and was also vital in ensuring the success of the pageant as chairman. They live nearby in Badgeworth.
